My Digital Life

Unlike many teenagers, I am not keen on watching TV nor surfing on the internet. Yet, there is one thing in common - I am addicted to my cell phone.

Having an iPhone with me, I am able to watch the most popular and recent clips or music videos on Youtube. I never leave comments on any Youtube videos, but I like reading other users’ comments. To me, I think some of these comments are useful to the clip owners, however, most of them are nothing more than jokes. I laugh and nod reading their creative comments – how they criticize someone or something ironically.

Let me share with you one of my favourite songs - A1, Learn to fly

As I’ve subscribed to quite a number of newsletters, I check my mail box very often. Usually, there are more than 10 mails a day. I tend to scan the topic of each mail, if there is anything interesting, I’ll click inside and continue reading it. If I don’t find anything special, I’ll simply delete them. Besides checking emails, I check Facebook updates very often. I login to Facebook around once or twice per hour. Okay, to be honest, as I have an iPhone with me, I check my Facebook anytime I feel bored. Most of the time, I check it too frequently that I find no new updates there. Then, I’ll click on some of my friends’ page aimlessly and see if I’ve missed any news.

Before I sleep, I lie on my bed and repeat the above cycle once more.

Things expected on this course

Before this course began, I thought it would be about writing for innovative technologies. I thought it would be, to a certain extent, like public relation’s writings. That is, I write, like for a website, for promotional purposes or so. However, after the course begins, I find that it’s about understanding Web 2.0 and its impacts on us. For instances, to understand the popularity of some online writing tools, the differences between some of the jargons, to use online content-creation tools to write and share with everyone thus to facilitate communication. As an active online user, I hope that when this course finishes, I’ll grasp the concept of Web 2.0 and have an in-depth understanding about the virtual world.

First step into the world of media
